Rolla Mornings Live - Podcast Episode #2

Paige, Steve & Marty discuss Municipal Broadband...again!

Ah,yes....it rears its ugly head again...municipal broadband just CANNOT be ignored! I'm not going to take sides at this point because I can see it from both viewpoints...the consumer who doesn't have access to broadband AND the business who can't afford to compete with the government. What I do feel strongly about, however,is the impact that community wide broadband has on the local economy. Without it, we risk losing potential new business opportunities. Community wide broadband is a business incentive (not to mention an incentive for the people who move into a community to take the jobs generated by new business). Personally, I want to make sure that everyone makes it their responsibility to educate themselves about the pros and cons and makes an informed decision about whether or not it is a good thing or a bad thing. For some good resources, check out my post on Rolla Mornings Live.

How to Recover From and Prevent a Hard Drive Crash

Kristi is ready to spread the gospel about this one. If you participated in the January 27th show, you know that she was starting to have problems. Well, those problems escalated to the point that she is having to replace her hard drive and wants to make sure you don't have the same experience she just had. If there's a hard drive in your family, you don't want to miss this episode of Views from the Coop Online!

Municipal Broadband...Yes or No - A Coop FULL of Views!

We'd like to say a special thanks to everyone who joined us for a great discussion about the pros and cons of municipal broadband/wireless. As most of you are aware, it's a hot topic and one that we all need to know more about. This week, we were lucky to have Peter Yanke of BX Internet in Socorro, NM with us to share his views as a small, independent Internet Service Provider. If you weren't able to participate in the discussion, listen to the podcast!

Also on-hand to share their views:

Penny Haynes of 1st Podcast Publishing starts Podcaster Central

I just had the distinct honor of being the first interviewee for Penny Haynes' new podcast, 1st Business Podcasters, on her new podcast network, Podcaster Central. Penny will be interviewing entrepreneurs who have added podcasting to their marketing efforts and learning from them how it has affected their business (and personal) lives. Since Penny is the reason I'm podcasting today, I am always thrilled to be involved in whatever project she's working on.

By the way, don't forget to join Kristi and me tomorrow on Views from the Coop online. Peter Yanke of BX Network Radio and CoolCast will be on hand to offer his views on Municipal Broadband from his position as a small, private ISP, BX Internet. If you have views you want to share, or even if you just want to learn more about one of the hottest Internet topics today, set your clock for 9:30am CST and login to the virtual Coop!

Municipal Broadband....continued!

Kristi and I waited in the online Coop last week and nobody joined us....at least not until after we decided to postpone the show until Kristi gets back from her cruise. THERE WILL NOT BE AN ONLINE SHOW THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 20. We hope you'll make plans to join us on the 27th (and be there at 9:30am CST when we open our virtual doors!)PLEASE READ THE TEXT UNDERNEATH THE LOGIN BOX BEFORE YOU LOGIN TO THE ROOM! I will post the topic for the show as well as the dates. Also, please login with your name and your location so we know from whence you came!! If you're interested in some interesting reading about municipal broadband before the show, I posted a list of resources on the Rolla Mornings Live! blog this morning. Views from the Coop Online: Topic for 01-13-06

Is Municipal Wireless Broadband a Blessing...or a Curse?

Do you think Internet access should be as easily available as your lights, gas and water are? Has Internet use become so widespread that it should be considered a utility? Does the government have any business entering the ISP business? Is this a case of unfair competition between government and private enterprise? If you have any of these questions AND if you have views you'd like to share, join us Friday morning at 9:30am CST.

Podcasting outside the Coop!

It's not enough that I get to podcast with the multi-talented Kristi "Chickitoo" Hicks, Gadget Goddess and Knitting Queen (if you haven't seen the socks she knitted for me, you HAVE to check them out on her blog!), but I also started podcasting recently with a couple of other phenomenal women podcasters: Kim Bloomer of Animal Talk Naturally and Renee' Brown of Women's Ave Radio.

I just joined Renee' on Women's Ave Radio, an online women's radio station, as tekkie chik in residence beginning Monday, January 16. I will be hosting a weekly 15-minute segment to offer tech tips and share tech news with her devoted listeners. You can listen to a new show every Monday to hear Renee' interview experts in their own specialty as they give small business hints, tips, and share their small business owner success stories. If you tune in this week, you can hear me interview Kim! When Renee' lost her voice last week, she asked me to host the show for her and I jumped at the opportunity! Renee' is also one of the newest BX Network Radio podcasters for CoolCast.

What can I say about Kim Bloomer of Aspenbloom Pet Care except that she's THE voice for pets everywhere? As a natural pet care educator, Kim's goal is to share information that will help pet owners enjoy sharing their lives with happy, healthy pets. She's also a hoot! Kim's sense of humor marks every conversation, podcast and blog post in which she's a part. If you haven't listened to her on CoolCast, you don't know what you're missing!

I feel extremely lucky to be able to podcast with these three wonderful women. I hope you take the time to listen to all of us online. We promise you won't be sorry!

Steven Leonard of RollaTV has kindly agreed to let me add the audio from my appearances on Rolla Mornings Live to Views from the Coop. If you're in the RollaTV viewing area, tune in to Rolla Mornings Live each weekday to hear what's going on. If you're not sure if you're in the viewing area, contact Steven Leonard to find out. Views from the Coop Online: Podcast Episode #11

Kim Bloomer of Aspenbloom Pet Care shares her experiences with blogging and podcasting!

We enjoyed talking with Kim Bloomer of Aspenbloom Pet Care during the first VFTC online show of 2006. Kim had plenty of good information to share with us about getting started with blogging and podcasting as well as showing us what a GREAT pet care educator she is! If you weren't able to join us live, you can still listen from the blog!

Kim Bloomer of Aspenbloom Pet Care joins us on Views from the Coop online!

Views from the Coop Online welcomes special guest, Kim Bloomer of Aspenbloom Pet Care, to the virtual coop this week. Kim has her own podcast on CoolCast called Animal Talks Naturally during which she "Talks for the Animals" with her co-hosts Jeannie Thomason and her brilliant neo-mastiff, Shadrach. Shadrach even has his own blog! He's the first ever PawHD and his advice to my mom's cat, Norman, and friend Dottye's puppy, Snickers, has been right on target.

Besides her sincere advocacy for our furry friends, Kim is a tekkie chik in her own right (although she denies it vehemently). She was blogging before it was cool and podcasting before Adam Curry gave it a name. She'll be sharing her experiences with technology as well as her views on modern pet care on Friday morning, January 6, at 9:30 CST on Views from the Coop Online. Don't miss it!

Paige joins Steve & Marty on Rolla Mornings Live!

Fast on the heels of Chickitoo's announcement about Views from the Coop receiving the Listener's Choice award for January from CoolCast radio, I was a guest on Channel 16's Rolla Mornings Live hosted by Steven Leonard and Martin Weinbaum. What a hoot!

Since my most recent broadcasting experiences have been in local radio and podcasting via the Internet, it was a little different having a camera staring at me the whole time I was on the air. I actually had to get up early, fix my hair, put on makeup and wear something nice. You can tell me if I cleaned up OK by visiting the Rolla Mornings Live blog where Steve posted a picture he took of me. No picking the nose or toes on THAT show...! I had a great time and readily accepted Steve & Marty's invitation to visit them again soon.
